Creative Dessert Displays

In my last post we discussed designing fabulous backdrops for your dessert tables. Today I want to show you some examples of creative ways to display your desserts. The party doesn't start and end at the cupcake stand, ladies!

I love how in this ice cream parlor station the toppings are neatly and beautifully displayed in a cutlery box that's been painted white. The box adds so much interest and gives the table a more professional look, than say... bowls. (Eat Drink Chic)

Check out how cute these cupcakes look when displayed in a cabinet instead of a cupcake stand! Now that makes a statement. (Katie Cassidy Photography, via Celebrations at Home)

How about displaying your desserts in a bookcase rather than on a table! (P.S. I Love This)

And while we're talking about creative dessert displays, the next photo takes the cake! The dessert was displayed on a miniature pink picnic table! Adorable, fun and unique. (Jose Designs)

I love the charming look of this 2 tiered buffet table. It was an old piece, given a new life with a coating of paint in a happy color, and it serves treats in an old world enchanting sort of way. (Pen N' Paperflowers)

Designed By Dad: Teen Girls Birthday Party

A teen girls birthday party...designed by dad. Yes, you read that correctly. Aaron Christensen is the dad behind the party. Aaron is also an artist and designer with a line of licensed wall art. His company is the famed Embellishment Studios which has received many honors and accolades. As you can see, the guy knows what he's doing. It's nice to find a dad going all out for his daughters birthday party. According to Angela his wife - the party decor and decorating was his undertaking and she focused on the invitations, the menu and shopping.

Aaron describes the decor: "The table linens were sewn out of some pink velveteen yardage I had left over from a girl's room project, some black sateen from a halloween party, white butcher paper, an inexpensive but designer looking quatrefoil tablecloth and we borrowed the zebra drapery sheers from my daughter's room to use as a runner.
I strung a wire across the lawn from neighboring trees to secure the outdoor chandelier from.  To adorn the chandelier and the wire, I used some miscellaneous pom poms, ribbon and beading I've been toting around for years.  We utilized wicked oil torches instead of candles, they are just wrapped in fuchsia parchment and damask paper."

Designing Table Backdrops

I would like to introduce our newest Design Dazzle Contributor Amy Oren of Blowout Party.  Amy likes to make parties fabulous and fun! Welcome Amy!!

Gone are the days when you could just throw on a tablecloth, some food, and call it a party. Today's dessert tables are all about details, design, and decor. Enter the table backdrop. Consider the backdrop as an extension to your tablecloth. With simple materials, you can transform a beautiful dessert table into an impressive, professional looking work of art, that is tasteful to the eye as much as it is to the palate.

The backdrop for this kite party is a great example. The clean, yet illustrative backdrop sets the scene, complements the theme, but does not distract you from the actual dessert table.

I absolutely love the bright and dynamic backdrop to this holiday dessert table. The red and white striped fabric is offset by elegant, yet whimsical paper flowers and snowflakes. What an enchanting way to set the scene!

The centerpiece of this winter wonderland dessert table is enhanced by the paper fan arrangement behind it.

For this circus party, a canopy frame supports the striped fabric, giving the whole dessert table a circus tent look and feel.

A lovely chalkboard menu as a backdrop for a patisserie inspired tea station- how wonderful!

Ribbon backdrops are beautiful as well as versatile. They can lend a dessert table anything from an elegant and formal air, to a light and airy feel. This dessert table on the beach has a delightful, graceful, and breezy backdrop.

This ribbon backdrop was designed to look like the sea- effervescent and magical.

Using a few oversized balloons behind the dessert table makes for a clean and simple, yet bold presentation.

Sometimes, all you have to do is get creative with the space you actually have. This dessert table was set in front of the loft's freight elevator. The authenticity of the textured wall adds another dimension to table. It's interesting and tells a story.

When planning your dessert table, remember to balance out colors and textures between wall, table, and everything in between!
